Test / Blind Flanges

Blind Flange is a flange with no bore or outlet, designed to close off an outlet or end connection. While Test Flange is a Blind Flange, with a tapped test port in its center or side to allow application of pressure or the attachment of a gauge.

The blind flange serves a function similar to that of a plug or cap. It is used to terminate the end of a piping system. The blind flange is basically a flange that does not have a hub or a bored center.

Blind flanges have the face thickness of a flange, a matching face type, and similar bolting pattern. Blind flanges can also be used to seal a nozzle opening on a pressure vessel. Because it is bolted, the blind flange provides easy access to the interior of a vessel or pipe, unlike a cap that is welded. Figure 4.24 represents the drawing symbol for the blind flange.

Ram Type BOP

A ram-type BOP is similar in operation to a gate valve, but uses a pair of opposing steel plungers, rams. The rams extend toward the center of the wellbore to restrict flow or retract open in order to permit flow.

Annular Type BOP

An annular blowout preventer uses the principle of a wedge to shut in the wellbore. It has a donut-like rubber seal, known as an elastomeric packing unit, reinforced with steel ribs.

Ram Blocks

The closing and sealing component on a blowout preventer. One of three types – blind, pipe, or shear – may be installed in several preventers mounted in a stack on top of the wellbore.

Manifolds – Choke & Kill/Testing

An accessory system of piping to a main piping system (or another conductor) that serves to divide a flow into several parts, to combine several flows into one, or to reroute a flow to any one of several possible designations.

BOP Control Units

A device that stores hydraulic fluid under pressure in special containers and provides a method to open and close the blowout preventers quickly and reliably. Usually, compressed air and hydraulic pressure provide the opening and closing force in the unit.

Chokes – Hydraulic, Manual & Fixed

Provide flow restriction in high pressure applications such as choke manifolds, flow through manifolds and test manifolds.

Drilling Valves – Gate, Ball, Plug & Check

Generally used to completely shut off fluid flow or, in the fully open position, provide full flow in a pipeline. Closing the valve is accomplished by spring force within the valve operator and by some means of assist from line pressure.

Adaptors – BOP & Well Head

Provides the suspension point and pressure seals for the casing strings that run from the bottom of the hole sections to the surface pressure control equipment.

Drilling and Diverter Spools

Drilling spools allow the smooth circulation of mud during drilling operations and usually have the same nominal top and bottom end connections. Side outlet may differ from each other. Top, bottom and side end connections can be hub end or flanged.

Riser – Flange x Flange

Pipe and special fittings used on floating offshore drilling rigs to establish a seal between the top of the wellbore, which is on the ocean floor, and the drilling equipment, located above the surface of the water.

Choke and Kill Hoses

For drilling and service both onshore and offshore in applications as choke and kill lines. Choke and kill hoses are essential to control the well control equipment.

Chiksan / Treating Iron

These rugged fittings come in 3/8- to 12-inch sizes and can handle cold working pressures up to 20,000 psi. Chiksan swivel joints are available for sour gas services at cold working pressures up to 15,000 psi.

BOP Test Pump & Bolt Torque Unit

BOP Test Stump

BOP Test Stumps are used at off-shore and on-shore drilling rig to test Annular Type of BOP for locking mechanism test and sealing mechanism test.

Test / Blind Flanges

A projecting rim or edge (as on pipe fittings and openings in pumps and vessels), usually drilled with holes to allow bolting to other flanged fittings.
